Babies (0–1)

Babies learn from faces, voices, and their own hands. They don't learn from screens: the AAP says infants "do not learn from digital media," and the WHO recommends no sedentary screen time under age 2 (video chat with Grandma is the exception). The best "toy" is you narrating your day.

Our default screen plan for this age

No screens (video chat is fine).

Based on AAP 2026 policy statement and WHO 2019. Adjust it for your family. Make your printable plan →

Worth owning at this age

Babyletto Gelato 4-in-1 Convertible Crib

BetterAges birth to 4 yrs
$399 on babyletto.com, checked Oct 20, 2026

Clean mid-century lines with a toddler-bed conversion kit included. Babyletto lists GREENGUARD Gold certification on many cribs; we show only what this page states.

Honest drawback: Assembly takes an afternoon, and the toddler conversion uses the same frame, so it won't become a big-kid bed.

⚠️ Use only a firm, flat, tight-fitting crib mattress; nothing else in the crib.

Stokke Tripp Trapp chair

Can't-miss classicBuilt to lastSplurgeAges 6 mo+
$249 on stokke.com, checked Oct 20, 2026

The chair that pulls a baby up to the family table, then adjusts for years. Children who eat with you, talk with you.

What real parents say: Wirecutter's upgrade pick: it truly grows with a child and is easy for preschoolers to climb into themselves. Sources

Honest drawback: Splurge, and accessories (baby set, tray) cost extra.

HALO Easy Transition SleepSack (TOG 1.5)

GoodAges 3 mo to 1.5 yrs
$39.99 on halosleep.com, checked Oct 20, 2026

A wearable blanket replaces loose blankets entirely, which is the AAP safe-sleep recommendation in product form.

Honest drawback: Transition products are for babies showing signs of rolling; read the maker's weight and milestone guidance.

⚠️ Back to sleep; stop swaddling when baby shows signs of rolling (AAP).

Yogasleep Dohm Uno with travel case

GoodAges All ages
$49.66 on yogasleep.com, checked Oct 20, 2026

A real fan inside makes the white noise, so there's no app, no Wi-Fi, no screen and no subscription. The sound-machine pick for a screen-free house.

What real parents say: People love the Dohm line because the sound comes from a real fan, not a looping recording. Sources

Honest drawback: Fewer sound options than app-based machines, which we consider a feature.

⚠️ AAP: place sound machines away from the crib (not on the rail) and keep volume moderate.

Newton Essential Bassinet

GoodAges birth to 0.5 yrs
$199.99 on newtonbaby.com, checked Oct 20, 2026

Newton is known for its breathable, washable mattress design, and the bassinet brings that to the room-sharing months the AAP recommends.

Honest drawback: Bassinets have short lives. Follow the maker's weight and "stop when baby can roll or push up" limits.

⚠️ Safe sleep: back to sleep, firm flat surface, bare bassinet. Must meet the federal bassinet standard (16 CFR 1218).
